Amy, this is great!! I'm fascinated. I've been vegetarian for a little over 5yrs now. My favorite thing in the world to eat is what I guess could be considered a salad. I start by grilling a sliced sweet potato and zucchini. Then I add them to a big bowl of cooked quinoa, raw red bell peppers, avocado, and a raw green (usually end up with spinach bc I just like it & my little grocery store always has it really fresh). Something about the mix of cooked and raw veggies just hits the spot for me. It's quick, easy, and doesn't leave you in a food coma.

@Kristen, The book I read, Disease Proof Your Child, recommends 90% plant based and the other 10% other foods. My friend, Hallie, wrote a great post about this today to and her source recommends high quality, organic meats and 80% plant based. Here is the link to her post: http://www.dailybitesblog.com/2012/05/04/interview-with-dr-ed-bauman-part-1-2/

I am with you on the meat - I have been doing some research and one book said at 6 months give braised beef with carrots and potatoes. I think not. I'm not saying that I'm going to raise Nate as a vegetarian but I am not feeding him braised beef at 6 months. At least that's my stance today.

Hi Amy!

So glad I saw this post--just in the past week I have been seriously contemplating adopting a vegetarian/plant-based diet. My daughter is 8 mos. and has been eating fruits, veggies, and grains since 6 mos. I know it's okay to start giving her meat right now but something just doesn't feel right about it. Thinking I may refrain from giving it to her for a while (who knows how long) and figure that if I'm going to do it for her, I should be doing it myself too.

Thanks!
