Update 10/2/10: Contest closed.
One thing I’ve learned from being gluten-free and sugar-free is that there is no lack of options when it comes to creating great tasting food. All it takes is a little determination and creativity.
Ricki Heller, of Diet, Dessert, and Dogs, surely shares this school of thought. Her most recent e-book, Desserts Without Compromise, is filled with 19 delicious recipes that are refined sugar-free, gluten-free, egg-free, dairy-free, low glycemic, and will all work for various stages of the Anti-Candida Diet (ACD).
If you’re not familiar with ACD, Ricki, a Registered Holisitc Nutritionist (RHN) gives a full explanation in her introduction and shares her experience of eating well with ACD friendly food. Personally, I’ve never been on an ACD diet (I had to look up the acronym…) but her recipes all fit perfectly within my food boundaries and are a great fit for anyone who eats SS&GF.
Ricki also has a detailed section about the sweetners used in Desserts Without Compromise, which include:
- stevia
- yacon syrup
- vegetable glycerin
- coconut (palm) sugar
- agave nectar
A handful of the recipes you’ll find with full color photos include:
- Blueberry Chia Pudding
- Carob or Chocolatey Fudge
- Pumpkin Apple Crumble Bars
- Grain Free Chocolate Hazelnut Cookies
- Frosted Raw Lemon Bars
For a complete table of contents, see Ricki’s blog.
Ricki’s Mounds Bars with my less than skilled chocolate coating job.
The taste is fabulous even if the chocolate coating isn’t picture perfect.
The Mounds Bars (a.k.a. Bounty Bars in Canada)
I haven’t had a candy bar in almost 7 years. Yes, 7 years. And when I bit into these Mounds Bars I smiled ear to ear. The filling almost didn’t get covered with chocolate because it was so good. And, they’re easier to make than I thought.
I ate one during the photo shoot and popped the rest in the freezer for safe keeping. I pulled one out later to see how it tasted…and gosh. I could bite right into it. The center was still soft and the chocolate coating was perfectly crisp. It reminded me of the chocolate coating on Klondike Bars.
To get the mounds bar recipe, you’ll have to purchase Ricki’s e-book or – better yet – win a copy. Desserts Without Compromise is available on Diet, Dessert, and Dogs for immediate download so you can get into you kitchen right away and make your own dessert…without compromise.
Or, if you’d rather ‘try before you buy’ check out these desserts from the book that Ricki has already shared on her blog:
Full Disclosure: Ricki did give me a copy of her e-book with the option of sharing it here on SS&GF if I chose – I was under no obligation to write this post nor did the free book influence my opinions. I do not receive a commission for books purchased.
The Give-Away
One SS&GF reader will get a copy of Desserts Without Compromise, compliments of Ricki.
How to enter:
- Leave a comment below.
- Tweet about this give-away and leave a separate comment telling me you did.

Anyway can you email me at chiefjoseph25@yahoo.com and let me know and if there are other tips out there I would love to hear it all. I am your biggest fan:) I will be watching this blog always

@Angela Bigelow, My Resource page lists where I buy many of the ingredients here at SS&GF. I do have a bread recipe, too.
As far as buying bread, I recently bought Udi’s and it’s really good. I’m so glad to know that you’re enjoying my blog. Hugs!

@Bethany Aplin, I’m so glad you’re enjoying what I do here….it’s really people like you that make the whole thing go. I admire how you’re supporting your daughter. I’m sure it means so much to her. Hugs.

Sounds like a great book to me. I’m trying to make healthier desserts especially as my 16 month old son wants to eat whatever I have.

Amy I am so glad to have found your site.
I cook for a family of 6. My eldest son has Autism so he is gf/cf/sf/ and egg free. All of us feel better on this diet, and I am losing weight on it AND we all feel better. You and I have much in common weight history wise ( and we’re both 76′ ers! :0) ).
This Ebook sounds great! Thank you!
Hope in Spokane

My doctor recommended I go gluten-free and I’m trying to do the anti-candida thing too. Your review of the book makes me want to go to a bookstore now. But I’ll wait and see if I’m lucky enough to win it.
Thanks for a great blog!
