This is hands-down the best gluten-free pizza crust I’ve ever had.

No joke.

The crust tastes so much like the pizza I remember from my childhood that I actually started craving soda when I eating. It’s just that good. When you take a bite of crust, you get that pizzeria chewy, bready bite.

It’s so good that deep down inside I wish I would have come up with the recipe. I didn’t though. My good friend, Karen, from Blackbird Bakery created a Gluten-Free Bread Blend, which is what I used to make the crust. Her pizza crust recipe is on the back of the package and it’s quite simple.

I wrote a book about quick meals but the reality of it is that having a small child brings new meaning to quick cooking. Nate is still on the two naps a day schedule. He usually sleeps for one to one and a half hours per nap. Two to three hours sounds like a lot of time but when you factor in bills, laundry, making dinner, washing dishes, vacuuming, and work it feels like no time at all.

I’ve become even better at cooking with little time. And, I can make a meal out of almost nothing. It used to be easy to run to the store to pick up what I needed to make exactly what I had in mind. Now, going to the store is an event. I’ve learned out of necessity to make do with what’s on hand. It’s almost always just as good, and often better, than what I had intended.

Having a well stocked pantry is key. If you don’t know how to stock your kitchen or are wondering what you could add to make it even better, check out my Meal Planning Made Simple series. Sunday is Joe’s first Father’s Day. I think I’m more excited than he is. We waited so long to become parents so having a day to celebrate together is really special. He spoiled me on Mother’s Day with an assortment of items from my baking supplies wish list, including some really fun Fat Daddio piping tips and another piece of Le Creuset to add to my collection.

I’ve got a few surprises planned for him this Sunday, and of course, I’m making his favorite dishes for dinner.

I thought it would be fun to share the recipes on SS&GF that Joe asks me to make over and over…and over again. If you’re not sure what to make for Father’s Day, rest assured that you can choose any of the dishes below and they’ll be a hit. If my picky husband loves them, the Dad in your life will too.

The holidays are always a great time to cook, gather with friends, relax, and enjoy life.

Memorial Day is more than just a day off of work, though. It’s a day to remember all those who given their lives while helping to create and preserve our nation’s freedom. It’s too bad that such a price has to be paid to be free.

When I was flying home from Nourished there were about 35 young men in Navy uniforms flying out to their base. It was 5:00 in the morning. Each soldier had on a perfectly pressed uniform and beautifully shined shoes. They flew coach though I thought that they should have all been upgraded to first class.

As I watched them find their seats on the plane, I thought of my little Nate and how one day he will have the option to serve his country. My eyes welled up with tears as I thought of their mothers and how they must be so proud and so scared all at once. It’s not only the soldiers who sacrifice, but their families do as well.
Today I’m thrilled to share this comforting dish and guest post from my dear friend, Alta, from Tasty Eats at Home. Alta and I live pretty close together and I’ve had the opportunity to eat her food. It’s beyond good! Enjoy this post and make sure to stop by her blog. It’s a favorite of mine.

Hello! I am honored to be sharing here at Simply Sugar and Gluten-Free while the Green family spends quality time with their new little bundle of joy. They need all of the time together that they can get (and all the sleep they can manage to squeeze in!).

Today I’ll be sharing a one-pot meal that just reminds me so much of Amy’s style of cooking – fresh, full of flavor, and not overly complicated. It’s one of those recipes that take a bit of time from start to finish, but much of that time isn’t spent actively cooking, and it all takes place in a single pot, so it’s pretty fuss-free. But even more than that, it’s a rustic, comforting dish that warms your heart and your belly.
