@Cynthia, I was on domperidone too but he still didn't get enough food - at one point he was only getting 1/4 ounce and after domperidone he only got 1 ounce and that was feeding on both breasts and then going back again to the one I started with. He was working so hard to get food that he wasn't gaining weight. It was emotionally draining. I wish we had a great clinic like Jack Newman - I watched every video they had while trying to get the breastfeeding going as well as working with an in-home breast feeding consultant. I am sometimes still a little sad about it because even though it was so hard I loved the connection it gave us. We made it through 3 months so I am grateful for that.

My pediatrician suspects that much of it was due to the fact that Nate is not an aggressive eater. He has never even taken 8 ounces in one feeding! Usually 4 - 6. And he's almost 8 months old.

Update on the sleep - he was only up twice last night - 3am and 6 am (if you don't count the once or twice when we were awake...) so that was incredible!! He used to be up every 45 minutes or hour. He ate at 3 but didn't at 6. Right now, if he wants to eat I feed him because, like I said, he's not a big eater anyway.

Try the No Cry Sleep Solution - it is great. I get moms who do the 'cry it out' method telling me that's the only way all the time. I'm not willing to do it today. It seems so cruel.

Hugs to you!!

@Amy,

@Amy I know! Isn't it ridiculous how hard breastfeeding is? It's supposed to be "natural" and yet I don't know anyone who hasn't struggled with it. I have only managed to stick it out thanks to the help of an amazing clinic (The Jack Newman clinic here in Toronto) and Dom Perridone after two months of very painful struggling. It is the most emotionally challenging thing I've ever done, in fact I think it was emotional torture!

My best friend had great success with the No Cry Sleep Solution with her son who is formula fed too (she had an awful time because he was not a good eater and her milk production was low). He's actually the best sleeping baby I know and he was horrible before the sleep training.

Geraldine was actually an amazing sleeper at first but then went all haywire at month 4. Now I know that technically she is old enough to sleep through the night but I honestly feel like she is hungry when she wakes up. It's so hard to decide whether or not I should give in and feed her or not.

Isn't funny how sleep obsessed you become? I'm a sleep fanatic now!

Well I hope that Nate starts to sleep through the night with the training. I'm going to have to do something with Geraldine soon because if I don't get more sleep I'm going to lose my mind!

@Cynthia, Yep, Nate was born Feb 23. Nate got his first two teeth a few weeks ago - about 6 1/2 months - and so far he's not a big eater. He seems to like pears and applesauce. Some times he goes for the green beans and he seems to like avocado. His favorite was pureed pumpkin but it's so fiber heavy. Can't let him eat too much.

I haven't opted for Baby Led Weaning but you're the second person that mentioned it to me so I might have to look into it.

I tried and tried to breastfeed and couldn't. I tried medication and everything but I didn't make enough milk. I pumped every three hours for two weeks. Still not enough milk. It broke my heart but I had to give him formula. And - if it makes you feel better - he doesn't sleep through the night. He doesn't even nap much. I have been using The No Cry Sleep Solution and it's getting so much better. I see a light at the end of the tunnel.

Keep in touch! I'd love to hear how things are going with you. I love being a momma!! It's the best thing I've ever done.

Hugs!

Hi Amy,

I've recently bought your book and have been making some delicious sugar and gluten free recipes. I then found your website.

I'm slowly leaning into going sugar and gluten free because I think I suffer from sugar addiction.

Just writing here because I had my first child, a girl named Geraldine on March 1st so it looks like we both became mothers around the same time! I'm really looking forward to seeing your recipes for babies and children! We are using the Baby Led Weaning food method and as Geraldine's first two teeth arrived the past week I'm hoping to start given her more and more diverse foods including some SS and GF recipes.

I hope all is well with you and that you are adjusting!

Cynthia

P.S. Geraldine is still not sleeping through the night in part because she is teething and in part because she is exclusively breastfed - seems to me the only babies I know sleeping through the night are either partially or entirely formula fed.

@Alicia, That's a great philosophy, Alicia! I used to be able to eat anything but with this extra 20 pounds hanging around I don't feel so free. It will come off - and it is as I type. It just takes more time than I'd like. At least those maternity pants are stretchy!! And, it is so worth it to have this adorable little guy to love!! Good luck with your system reset!
